California Rest in Peace
Day Two of our adventure began with our SODEXHO french breakfast. Once again, way better than Millevegas. We had our class in the courtyard of the Fiap. We began with a quick discussion of the class and what we hoped to accomplish. For those who don't know, we are going to be writing our own absurdist plays in the vein, or under the influence of Ionesco and his city of inspiration. After class concluded around 11:00 we took the METRO into the city. Paris is a stunningly beautiful place. It is not the grand landscape shots we are innundated with through the collective concious but instead it seems so far the beauty is in the streets. The feel, the vibe, the smell. It can't be remembered by anything other than experience.
Our first site to behold was the Saint-Chappell. I don't know the history of the church but it is attached to the justice complex here in paris and is absolutely breathtaking. The stained glass is very beautiful and we fear our pictures will not do it justice on our return. Outside of Saint-Chappell while waiting for the others someone not in our group called out "John Hurley!" Upon turning around I was greeted by Patrick Cassidy an old friend from Kindergarten through Highschool who is in Paris apparently studying drawing and french females.
After Saint-Chappell we went to Notre Dame. No picture, video, or combination of words will ever encompass this great cathedral. The size is beyond comprehension. For those of you who have been to see a GCSU theatre production, imagine a church where Russell auditorium will fit inside several times over. It is massive, it seems smaller, but as you approach it just grows, it rises up and becomes so big that you cannot even take in a single entryway. Once again our pictures will be a poor substitute.
Following Notre Dame we journeyed by rail and foot back to our Fiap. We enjoyed a recpetion with actual french hors devoures! Fancy! Following dinner we headed to the local grocery and bought some french wine. Taylor broke his bottle within 10 minutes but the rest of us made it back safely. We then sat in the Fiap courtyard, drank our wine, and celebrated our being in Paris the only way college students know how to celebrate anything. Much hilarity ensued with our buzz and of course, its all caught on tape! We miss all of you, and wish you good dreams as we begin our day and you go to sleep. Mahalo
